Welcome! The "Hobby"
Over 15 years ago, my friend George Tackaberry and I were looking at a truck in a field, a 1952 International L170 single axle cab and chassis. George needed some parts off the back end of the truck for his collection. He commented to me that this would be a great truck to start off what I thought would be a possible interest in restoring old trucks and equipment. "This one is a good one" advised George, "no rust, clean and straight. A good unit to try out" and we left it at that.
A few weeks later, that truck arrived on a G Tackaberry & Sons Construction Ltd truck and trailer............a gift from George.
What had started out as a possible passing interest has grown into a passion.
I have that restored truck as a proud part of my collection.
Thanks George for giving me this start.
HCEA Canada (link will open in a new window) was formed in 1996 to formalize a group of like-minded individuals eager to preserve antique construction equipment and record construction history in addition to collecting memorabilia and related trade literature. Over the past year much has been accomplished by our volunteer club members towards furthering our collection and restoration of artifacts-incuding horse drawn equipment of the early 1900’s to steam shovels and steam rollers of the 1920’s to the diesel equipment era of the 1940’s and 50’s
James Dick of James Dick Construction Ltd and Dozer World are proud members and supporters of the Historical Construction Equipment Association of Canada (HCEA)
The James Dick Group of Companies has grown from its humble beginnings in 1964 to being a leader in close-to-market gravel supply. Operating 18 gravel pits in Southern Ontario allows James Dick to have gravel on-site quicker and with less impact to the environment. For the complete story please enjoy the video.
